Amazing place to eat near downtown OKC (Wheeler District). Food is top tier and Jenny behind the bar is an exceptional employee. She was incredibly helpful and made our experience awesome!
This is hands down the best sushi we have ever had. Dare say the best restaurant/food in general. The Carpaccio is perfect. The edamame with kimchee butter is incredible. Every roll is perfect, cocktails are perfect, service is perfect. Dakota is fantastic. Our new date night spot. 15/10. OKC is blessed to have this.
Over the weekend, I got to try the new AKAI sushi spot and it was everything that I thought it would be and more. The menu was extensive (in a curated, good way), they had rolls w/ no Salmon (I'm allergic), and best of all - they had a NA espresso martini called NA-tini I highly recommend you go for their late night happy hour and sit at the bar for a good time OR a table for large groups. Whatever you do, make a reservation because they fill up quick!
May 16, 2025 Friday Wow! Been searching for sushi that reminds me of back in Japan, and I am so surprised to have found this place in OKC. The main chef is Japanese and seems passionate about Akai Sushi. I made a reservation just in case because every Friday, Wheeler District (where Akai Sushi is) holds a farmers market. Our waiter, Brandon, was INCREDIBLE. I highly recommend asking to sit in his section. He lived in Japan for 10 years and has extensive knowledge on their menu, drinks, and Japanese culture. He made our first experience incredible. The chef that was in this day was also lovely. Our appetizer (chicken skin skewers) was apparently taking much longer than he would like for unknown reasons so he gifted us the Yellowtail Jalapeno Carpaccio as an apology. This cold appetizer tasted incredible and so fresh. The fish comes from all over America's border, and arrives every single day for the freshest experience I have ever had in Oklahoma. The menu is so interesting and caters well to the people in the OKC area, but the nigiri and sashimi quality is spot on to famous places in Japan. I will be coming back, frequently!! Mr. Brandon also let us know that from now, Monday nights @ 7 pm they are having Karaoke at their bar!
This place is delicious. Can’t wait to come back! Make the reservation and enjoy!! We got the Crispy Rice Tuna (must get!), P-oke Master, Spicy Salmon and the Sake(salmon) Nigiri and all of them were wonderful. Can’t wait to try other signature dishes next time.
Finally stopped in for a birthday dinner with several friends. The menu was outstanding, offering very good options for almost any type of palate. We started off with the cod roe potato salad which we'd highly recommend if you are a lover of Japanese-style potato salad with some culinary flair. We opted for the Tuna sampler and the designer handroll combination plate The handroll plate is a choose your own adventure of 5 rolls from the options available. We let the kitchen surprise us. The rolls were very well made, with ample filling and attention. Ingredients were extremely fresh and the options were nicely diverse. The Tuna sample was the show stopper. Outstandingly fresh Tuna options and more than enough to feed 2 people and have an excellent culinary experience. Service was excellent, with solid suggestions for both food and drinks. Bar service was stellar, with great cocktail options and some very good non-alcoholic choices for those that prefer. All in all a great experience for a treat-yo-self dinner and we'll definitely be back.
We were first timers and heard nothing but great things! We had the best dinner, service was great. Everything we had was just like the pictures we had reviewed prior to visiting! We had the following: Edamame— must get wasabi butter so delicious Tuna Crispy Rice Yellowtail Carpaccio Nigiri Scallops & Yellowtail Spicy tuna roll And the expresso martini is to die for!
After recently moving from LA, I wasn’t expecting much from the OKC sushi scene — but Akai in the Wheeler District completely blew me away. The food, ambiance, and overall experience were exceptional. My husband and I tried several dishes, and a few standouts were the Tuna Crispy Rice, Yellowtail Jalapeno Carpaccio, and the Turf Taco. And don’t miss the Short Rib — it’s a must-try. This place is a gem for any foodie. Highly recommend!
